Kona Kitchen wins Loco Moco smackdown

The Seattle Weekly may not like the dumplings at Judy Fu’s Snappy Dragon, but Weekly writer Julien Perry this week dished out some kind words for the Loco Moco served at Maple Leaf’s Kona Kitchen, 8501 Fifth Ave. N.E.

And if Perry had to choose between the Loco Moco at the Kona Kitchen and at the Kauai Family Restaurant in Georgetown, Kona takes the prize for the traditional Hawaiian dish that comes with a hamburger patty topped with a fried egg, gravy and served, of course, with rice. From The Weekly:

“The beef gravy, made from scratch, needs to be bottled and sold immediately. It’s decadent without tasting fatty and has the color of dark amber syrup. Mixed with the broken yolk of the fried egg, it made for one of the best meat and rice toppings we’ve ever sunk our spoon into.”

Is your mouth watering yet?
